1st Year in A1

The biggest challenge of the Club was about to unfold.  After 12 years of hard work with pain, blood sweat and tears the Club made it to Division 1, playing against the might of teams such as Riverside, Adelaide Uni, Broadview and Teachers College.  The Club knew it was going to be tough but how tough was the question. To survive would be the main challenge.

Michael Varvounis was re-elected President for a record 5th year.  Bob Alexander was appointed A Grade Coach while Ray Klavins was appointed B Grade Coach but still playing for the A’s.  George Evreniadis was appointed C Grade Coach.

In the back of everybody’s minds was that wins were not going to come easily and any win was going to be a celebration. Unfortunately, the A’s won only 2 games which meant the Club was relegated to A2.  Nevertheless, the experience was priceless for the future of the Club.  The B grade finished 8th while the C Grade finished 7th.

One lesson was the Club needed to recruit players of A1 standard to continue to be an A 1 Club.

Ray Klavins won the A Grade Best and Fairest
