1977 Articles

1977 saw the Club revert to a non-playing Coach in Keith Koehne who had previously coached Flinders University and taken them from Division 4 to Division A1.  During that time one noticeable player playing under Keith was no other than Mike Varvounis.

Mike Varvounis was elected President for the first time and John Rogers was made Captain of the A’s while Evan Asikas was appointed B Grade Coach and Peter Economou appointed Coach of the C’s for the first time.

It was obvious under Keith the teams were playing a good brand of football not seen before.  All year the A’s were knocking on the top 4 only to end up in 5th position.  The B’s finished 8th and the C’s finished 7th.  Though the A’s didn’t make the 4 there was a sense of promising things to come in 1978.

Terry Evreniadis won A Grade Best and Fairest

Con Finos won B Grade Best and Fairest

Peter Economou won C Grade Best and Fairest

Towards the end of the season disaster struck and the Clubs’ change rooms were destroyed by fire.  Sadly, the Club lost everything however, with the Councils approval the Greek Football Club was able to rebuild new facilities which would be completed during the following year.
